Paekakariki Surf Lifeguards Inc. are a registered charity in New Zealand and are run by a Management Committee consisting of Chairman, President, Secretary, Director of Lifesaving, Director of Sport plus other committee members.
Matt joined the club and became a lifeguard in 1985. Competing and Patrolling for the club. He has been on the Committee for over 20 years in various positions. He loves coaching and officiating and seeing younger members of the club develop into great lifeguards and community members. Matt is a proud Dad, with his 4 children also Lifeguarding and competing for Paekak.
A longtime clubbie and surf athlete, Brent became our chairman in 2015.
Life member Dale Wills has been part of surf lifesaving for decades, bringing his daughters and grandchildren into the movement also.
A lifeguard since 2003, Elyse has been with Paekakariki since 2008 and served on various sub-committees, lifeguarded, instructed, and competed for the club.

Director of Lifeguarding
Amy joined the club as a Nipper in 2002 and has been a dedicated Clubbie ever since. Amy competed in Nippers, Senior Craft and now Surf Boats and IRB’s. She has been patrolling since the age of 14 including Regional and Volunteer. Amy moved into the role of Director of Lifesaving in 2017. She provides mentorship and leadership to members of the club. Outside of SLS Amy is a Paramedic, this is an asset to the club providing expert advice in First Aid. Amy is the leader of an excellent Lifeguard Service.
Hooky, as he’s better known, has been part of surf life saving since the ’60s. A regular official and event referee, he’s one of the most dedicated officials on our beaches, officiating at local, national and international events over the years. He’s a Paekakariki life member and a huge asset to our surf club.
Emma joined Paekakariki in 2012, when her 3 children started Nippers. Emma joined the Committee in 2017, as the funding and sponsorship Coordinator. She has been a dedicated Nipper coach over the past seasons, coming from a Sport Management background. Emma is present at all competitions, managing teams over the past 6 seasons.
Director of Sport
Dave joined the club in 1983 and has competed for over 40 years. He is our Head Coach for Senior Craft athletes. Dave is an excellent competitor, winning 5 gold medals at the 2017 World Masters Games. Dave provides excellent coaching and trains great athletes. Outside of the club, Dave works for the Police, he is a great asset to the club.
Brianna joined Paekakariki in 2012 and qualified as lifeguard in 2014. She has competed in Nippers, Senior Craft and currently rows Surf Boats. She also competes in IRBS. Bre has instructed Lifeguard Training for the past 3 seasons, taking on the role as Head Instructor last season. She has been employed by SLSNZ as a Beach Education instructor and Regional guard. Outside of the Surf Club Bre is Studying Education and Psychology at Victoria University.
Sandra joined Paekak when her 2 daughters got involved in Nippers. Sandra has coached and managed Junior Surf for many years providing expertise and experience. She is an active member of the club contributing to many aspects of the club, doing an excellent job as Nipper coordinator

Lynnie is a key part of Nippers here at Paekakariki, helping to run beach and inlet sessions throughout the year. Lynnie got involved when her 3 children joined – and whilst they’ve moved on to bigger things (like Olympic kayaking!) Lynnie still remains a presence at the club.

Steve joined Paekak in 1998 as a Surf Craft athlete, competing in Ski and also racing IRB’s. Steve has rowed and swept Surf Boats for many years, earning excellent results in New Zealand and Australia. Steve offers excellent coaching to Surf Boat athletes and is the Surf Boat representative on the Committee. Steve has been involved in SLS for many years, bringing advice and experience to many aspects of the club.
